Description

The Darmagi vineyard, located in Barbaresco, stands out as the first Cabernet Sauvignon planted in Piedmont after the phylloxera outbreak, recognized under the Langhe D.O.P. designation. Established in 1978 by Angelo Gaja, this 2.8-hectare vineyard, facing south at an average altitude of 280 meters, represents a pioneering choice showcasing the Langhe terroir's versatility in producing prestigious wines from non-traditional varieties. The winemaking process, blending steel and wood, imparts a distinctive personality to the wine, highlighting the youthful austerity derived from Barbaresco's soil. Characterized by a dark color and an aromatic profile interweaving spices, licorice, cassis, and floral notes, especially violet, this wine distinguishes itself through its remarkable structure and finely woven tannins, offering extraordinary longevity since its first vintage back in 1982.
