How it works

Cantinium allows you to purchase the bottles of the best Italian labels, certifying their origin and conservation thanks to the Blockchain.
The bottle is kept by Cantinium and you receive an NFT that certifies its ownership, which you can resell or use to redeem the bottle.

  1. Careful selection of the best Italian wineries
  2. Direct purchase from the manufacturer
  3. Custody in the cellar
  4. Unique identification of the bottles
  5. Creation of the guarantee certificate of authenticity and refinement
  6. Creation of the NFT
  7. Selection of the custody period
  8. Transfer of the NFT to the wallet
  9. Monitoring of environmental parameters
  10. Resale of the NFT or Redeem the bottle
  1. Careful selection of the best Italian wineries

In Cantinium we carry out a constant search for the best Italian cellars, the best labels and the best vintages. Our team of expert sommeliers and tasters select the finest bottles based on their quality, longevity and ability to evolve in the bottle.

  2. Direct purchase from the manufacturer

The purchase of the bottles takes place directly and exclusively from the producers to certify their origin and authenticity. The shipment starts from the producer’s cellar and arrives directly in ours, without further steps.
In this way, the origin is traced and the optimal aging conditions are protected.

  3. Custody in the cellar

We have set up a refining cellar with the most advanced Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, in which we regulate, monitor and record the environmental parameters to allow the bottle to evolve to its full potential. For the optimal definition of the temperature, humidity and brightness parameters, we make use of the latest scientific publications carried out in the wine field (1-4).
The bottles are never moved, to prevent them from undergoing environmental stress, and are also insured, to always guarantee their value.

  4. Unique identification of the bottles

NFC (Near Field Communication) tags are affixed to all bottles in order to be able to uniquely identify them and make them exclusive. Each NFC tag has a different and non-replicable identification number and allows, in addition to the reconstruction of the history, also to identify the ownership of the bottle, so as to avoid accidental exchanges.

  5. Creation of the guarantee certificate of authenticity and refinement

Each purchase and transport bill generated by the manufacturers contains the details of the products received.
This is linked to the environmental parameters monitored by the IoT devices.
In this way we generate a digital certificate of guarantee and refinement.

  6. Creation of the NFT

We create an NFT (Non-Fungible Token) which incorporates the digital certificate registered on the Polygon blockchain and also represents the certificate of ownership of the bottle.
By registering the data on the blockchain, the whole process is certified and the environmental data entered day by day they are unalterable and incontrovertible. The recorded data is thus public and verifiable by anyone.
You can use the NFT to redeem the bottle at any time.

  7. Selection of the custody period

During the purchase, you can select the storage time of the bottle in the cellar. At the end of this period, you can decide whether to renew the deposit. While, the redemption of the bottle is allowed at any time, without any penalty.
Based on the selected duration, Cantinium receives an annual reimbursement for the costs of custody and insurance against any eventuality. To find out more, read the "Cantinium Fees" section.

  8. Transfer of the NFT to the wallet

Once the wallet is connected in your personal area, you can proceed with the purchase of the desired NFTs, which will be transferred directly to your wallet.
All your NFTs will be visible in the "My NFTs" section in the personal area.
If you don’t have a wallet, or you don’t know how to connect it to your personal area, consult the "Create your wallet" page at the following link.

  9. Monitoring of environmental parameters

Once the bottle has been purchased, the environmental conservation parameters will continue to be monitored and recorded thanks to the IoT devices present in the cellar.
You can view all the data in the dedicated section, which will soon be present on the Cantinium website.

  10. Resale of the NFT or Redeem the bottle

From your personal area you can also redeem the bottle or sell the associated NFT. In addition to the Cantinium website, you can resell the NFT on any marketplace.
In case you decide to put it on the market, at the price you want, at the completion of the transaction, the NFT will be automatically transferred to the new user.
You can redeem the bottle at any time, which will be shipped to the address you indicated (see the Countries where it is possible to ship). Once the bottle is redeemed, the NFT will change status to "Collectible", which can also be resold. It will no longer be linked to the physical bottle, but will be collected in your personal area as a digital object proving that you have owned that bottle.

Cantinium Fees

Cantinium will apply, to each transaction, an initial cost for the custody and insurance of the bottle, between 4% and 6% per year, depending on the selected custody duration and the value of the bottle.
Subsequently, in phase of any renewal of the custody service, the calculation basis for the application of the costs will be equal to the initial value of the bottle purchased, increased by the custody costs applied up to that moment.

Selected years Annual custody cost
0 0.0%
1 6.0%
2 11.0%
3 15.0%
4 18.0%
5 20.0%

For example, by purchasing a bottle priced at €100 and selecting 2 years of custody, the total cost will be 111 € (€100 for the bottle and 11 € for custody for the 2 years).
In the renewal phase, by purchasing a storage period of a further year, the cost will be €6.66 (6% of the price of the bottle and the storage costs already incurred previously, i.e. €111).

The sale of NFTs between users is subject to a 2% withholding in the form of royalties, for the certification of the guarantee and refinement process.
